About this book

The Autobiography of Malcolm X, written with Alex Haley, is one of the most important American books of the twentieth century.

It tells Malcolm's life story: his childhood and his father's death, his years of crime and imprisonment, his conversion to the Nation of Islam in prison and his rise as its most famous spokesman, his break with the organisation, and his pilgrimage to Makkah, where the sight of pilgrims of every colour worshipping together transformed his views. He embraced mainstream Sunni Islam and took the name El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz shortly before his assassination in 1965.

It is a powerful story of transformation.
