About this book

Muhammad ibn Ishaq (d. c. 767) compiled the first great biography of the Prophet ﷺ, preserved mainly through the edition of Ibn Hisham. Almost every later seerah draws on it.

Alfred Guillaume's translation presents the full work: the background in Arabia, the Prophet's ﷺ early life, the revelation, the Makkan period, the Hijrah, the campaigns of Madinah and his passing. It includes the poetry and detailed reports of the original. It is a primary source, best read with a guide such as a modern seerah.
