About this book

Riyad as-Salihin, "The Gardens of the Righteous", was compiled by the thirteenth-century Syrian scholar Imam Yahya ibn Sharaf an-Nawawi. After the Quran, it is one of the most widely read books in the Muslim world, studied in mosques, schools and homes for over seven hundred years.

An-Nawawi selected around nineteen hundred hadith, mostly from the most authentic collections such as Bukhari and Muslim, and arranged them into short themed chapters. Each chapter opens with relevant verses of the Quran, followed by the hadith. The themes cover almost every part of a believer's life: sincerity and intention, repentance, patience, truthfulness, fear and hope, good manners, kindness to parents and neighbours, visiting the sick, eating and dressing, greetings, remembrance of Allah, supplications, the virtues of prayer, fasting and charity, and preparing for death.

Because each chapter is short and focused, the book is perfect for reading a few hadith a day or for a weekly family or mosque study circle.
