About this book

This is the first book of the Arabic course developed by Dr. V. Abdur Rahim, who taught Arabic to non-native speakers at the Islamic University of Madinah for many years. The course, often called the Madinah Arabic course, is one of the most popular ways to learn classical Arabic in the world.

Book 1 starts from simple sentences such as "This is a book" and builds grammar step by step: demonstratives, prepositions, the definite article, possessive constructions, adjectives, pronouns and basic verb forms. Each lesson introduces new vocabulary and grammar, with plenty of exercises. Everything is in Arabic, with the key explanations available in the accompanying English key.

Because it focuses on classical Arabic, it is especially suited to those who want to understand the Quran and Islamic texts.
